Idiots are born every day.. the bad part is, some "collector" will pay
that for it, thus adding credence to the asking price. Anyone who is a
user of such gear will, of course, puke up thier gizzard at that price..

Yes, I agree. That?s pretty high but I have to say by the time I finished restoring my GK 500A I had close of $1300 in it not including my time. I know if I every get ready to sell it I wouldn?t sell it for less than $1500.00. I took mine completely apart and regalvinized the three chassis and started over, including redoing the cabinet (with original back door and silk screening the front panel. You can see the finished product on qrz.com my call. Van, K7VS

Folks often forget about the time involved, or discount it based on the
price that they feel it should be worth. If we paid ourselves a fair wage
for restoring these old trinkets and based it on being a wise financial
investment, I suspect few items would get restored. Especially when you add
in the cost of parts and materials, along with the original purchase price.

Some folks see an asking price and automatically assume that all examples
are worth that, or this is what they go for. I've noticed a lot of items
available on ebay and elsewhere for far more than they are worth to me.
More often than not, they remain on the market for months, sometimes with
price adjustments and other times not. What it actually ends up selling
for, if it sells at all, is seldom seen. Only the original asking price is
remembered.

I know folks who truly believe a Globe King of any model isn't worth $100,
muchless $3000. I bet everyone in this thread would disagree with the $100
value, even for a ratty unit needing restoration. This is the good thing
about the free market: if it's not worth it, it won't sell. If it does,
then it was worth that amount to at least one person besides the seller.

A globe king 400 is the only WRL rig I would want to own, or would have
wanted to own before building homebrew stuff.
Even so, its quite a marginal rig.

Value?
Some people are crazy, or just have plenty of money to get something they
want.
Somebody paid $2000.00 for a homebrew rig I made, then paid a company to
crate it up and ship it to the west coast!
That is not even a classic vintage rig.

Can someone help me with a couple of pages from the WRL Globe 755A VFO. I need three pages, I think. The two on initial alignment and one showing the chassis parts layout pictorial. At the least, the alignment pages would be great. Thanks much. Van, K7VS

Thats my problem, this is of course way over as I paid roughly $400 apiece for mine, though either not working or unknown... but if I could buy these prizes and lock them in a safe and not touch them...good investment for some..but I got to play with them and "improve" where possible...just the ham way... hi hi?? way more fun than saving ...

I would also agree ... my 400's modulator has been modded from what I can see and I have always gotten glowing compliments on my audio quality ..just a bare D104 mic. Much better than the Heaths, Johnsons or military stuff I have heard.. No doubt that Leo thew whatever he got cheap surplus into these, but a lot was military quality .. certainly not to? commercial standards by a? long long shot..
