[AMRadio] A meter for a Heathkit SB-230 amp?

After much work rebulding a junker SB-230, I finally noticed that the
meter was blowed-up real good. Anyone have a spare meter for a
Heathkit SB-230 amp?

1ma full-scale

Jewell model 81

Heath p/n 407-105

You can see what it looks like at

And you can see more on the whole SB-230 project at

Cool! I took a look at the project page on your site. I thought it was the
amp that used that goofy conduction cooled final. That's a neat idea to mod
it, to eliminate the need for the 8873. What you going to use the amp for
Steve?

zzzDOINK!
I didn't break the meter, honest. It was like that when I bought the
amp. See...The power supply isn't even finished yet!
What you going to use the amp for Steve?
If it turns out to be stable and reliable, I believe it will become the
first linear amp to ever stay-put on my operating desk. It should be
handy for both AM and SSB. The other desktop amps I've played with
didn't impress me enough to be kept on the desk - they move to the
shelf the same day.

Once it is working OK 80-10m, I'll see if I can add 160m. The Russian
tube should be a good conversation topic.
Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all
that stuff.

If the amp-rebuilder is good, see, really good... he can barrel that
GI-7B down in there so low... Fryin' chickens in the barnyard!!

Ah-ha... it looks like I can adapt one of the inexpensive 1.75" (45mm)
square panels meters into the SB-230 very nicely. But I don't have any
more of them. Anyone have a 1 ma FS meter of this type? They were
sold under names like Calrad, Argonne, Lafayette, etc sometimes just
said JAPAN on them.

I suspect they are still made new as well... but don't see a source
online yet.

CalRad still sell them.

Ocean State electronics did stock them. CalRad has many local distributors.
Check the CalRad site.

Bob - thank you for the tip on Calrad. I ordered a couple meters from
"Electronic Parts Direct" whoever they are. Better price than Ocean
State Electronics, and hopefully faster at getting orders out than OSE.

Thank you very much - great info. Now that the SB-230 meter crisis is
resolved, maybe I can go take a nap. -grin-

I apologize to the list for my recent, "random" replies. Must be
